Spendesk's SFS engineering team is focused on creating and operating our banking infrastructure and systems.It's currently composed of a number of cross-functional squads working on different steps of the banking journey.

As the Engineering Director, reporting to the CTO, you'll be responsible for 4 key missions:

The first one is to guide, coach and grow the managers working directly with the engineers in the squads (EMs & Team Leads)(e)Spendesk's culture is heavily focused on individual growth and you'll be actively coaching and pushing our current management team to develop their own skills and career.

The second one will be to drive our delivery strategy in order to increase the value for our users while maintaining a world-class engineering environment for our team to stay productive and happy (it's always better to work on a clean codebase, at Spendesk we don't only ship new features!)(e)As the leader of this team, you'll be making the tradeoffs between the technical and product roadmaps and will need to be deeply connected both with our business and our architecture.

The third one is to ensure operationally, our engineering systems are secure, performant and resilient.

The last one is to grow and adapt an organisation.We are on a growth path, and we need to keep our fast pace and strong collaboration between the squads, develop the future managers and structure the team in the most efficient way for the long term.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and operate our banking platform to provide a best-in-class experience to both our customers and our teams
  • Hire, scale and inspire a cross-functional organisation moving it from a small, crafty squad to a sustainable team with a culture of velocity, agility, performance and quality.
  • Build an organisation of multiple engineering managers and provide them with direction and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the product & engineering leadership team, influence the product roadmap and strategy, and provide a technical perspective on strategic investments.
  • Maintain a strong engineering culture that is supportive of our company culture, and ensure we have excellent organisation, collaboration, and processes.
  • Ensure that we are making the right technical investments for the long term success of our platform and team.
  • Ensure our platform is operationally resilient, secure and performant.

What we're looking for:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English - it is our business language
  • 5+ years of proven management experience building and leading platform engineering organisations.
  • 5+ years of experience growing cross-functional organizations, and working collaboratively.
  • 5+ years of experience working on wide-scale, high-availability SaaS infrastructures
  • Experience improving developers experience
  • Experience restructuring and reengineering teams & processes to deliver measurable impact with a focus on outcomes over processes.
