Engineering Director Monetization & Operational Excellence

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Director to develop & implement monetization initiatives and to enable TheFork’s scalability in a fast growth environment by providing our internal teams with great tools, supporting the optimization of our processes, and managing our back office systems.

As a newly-created role in the company, this is an exciting opportunity to build an Engineering organization from scratch and to join an amazing group of Product & Engineering leaders embarked with their teams on a transformation of the Product & Tech culture and ways of working at TheFork.

In this role, you will work closely with you Product counterpart and will also collaborate directly with various teams in the organization, especially with our Operations, Sales and Marketing teams, which are deeply committed & motivated to improving the monetization of our Products and to bringing a step change in what “Operational Excellence” means at TheFork(e)We strongly believe that success in that role will depend heavily on the capacity of the Product & Engineering leadership and teams to consider internal teams as Customers and to apply modern Product management practices to monetization, scalability & operational challenges.

You will:

• Build & grow your team of Engineering Managers & Engineers in size and skills
• Contribute to the definition and implementation of TheFork’s ambitious monetization roadmap (transactional & SaaS pricing, billing, cash collection)
• Jointly with your Product counterpart, leverage Product Discovery approach and your technical skills to identify and prioritize internal customer problems to solve, test/derisk solutions and develop the Product roadmap related to monetization, internal tools and and back-office systems
• Implement enhancements to internal processes and ways of working to move the needle on key operational metrics amongst which Costs of Restaurant Acquisition & Maintenance costs
• Ensure resilience, security, stability of back office systems 
• Build trust with senior stakeholders and teams across the business, and collaborate closely with them to ensure a smooth product development process

You will be part of TheFork engineering team and report to the Chief Technology Officer.

What technologies are we using?

• Our front-end solutions are built upon ReactJS and graphQL over material design style guide,
• Our back-end technical stack relies on NodeJS & PHP frameworks and PostgreSQL databases
• Our scalable cloud infrastructure is based on AWS, Kubernetes and Istio
• Our production is monitored with New Relic complemented by Prometheus and Grafana.
• We are using unit, functional and integration testing to have quality proof software
• We use JIRA and Confluence for project and knowledge management

Who you are

• Passionate about food and restaurants
• Minimum 8+ years of experience, with successful track record capturing monetization opportunities and/or addressing scalability challenges in a technical role
• People leader: minimum 5 years experience managing, coaching and recruiting Engineers
• You are business savvy, rigorous, dynamic & curious, equipped with an agile mindset and a strong team spirit
• You have experience with architectural patterns of large-scale applications
• Problem solver, process oriented, ability to foster team spirit and performance
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills(e)You are able to establish strong relationships with other groups in the organization
• Experience in digital payment (especially with Stripe as PSP) is a plus
• Fluent in English, comfortable in French or Spanish or Italian

The position is based in Paris, Barcelona, Milan or Turin with regular interactions with other countries(e)We are also open to candidates in other locations or working remotely with the possibility to travel on a regular basis.
