About the team :

The Platform Development Team’s mission is to improve global developers’ experience at Back Market: we identify transverse topics that need extra love and care and develop software, services, and tooling so that feature teams can focus on their specific business perimeter(e)Our projects may vary from building a new performance tracking service, improving the CI or the CD, building common ground rules for JS bundling optimization, syncing efforts on new data architecture, developing or standardizing a Feature Flag service(e)Our team is composed of talented engineers with diverse skills and backgrounds such as backend or frontend development, ops, or database.

As engineers, we try our best to stick to some simple principles:

- keep things as simple as possible,
- improve overall resiliency and security of the platform,
- improve and guarantee consistency across teams,
- document technical and architectural decisions.

About the Job :

As a Database Engineer in our team, you will help us to transition from a monolithic database to a herd of smaller microservices datastores(e)Resilience and scalability will be your mantra(e)From a technology perspective, you will be operating MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters in a Cloud Native environment(e)You’ll work closely with infrastructure, SRE, or security teams as well as with chapter leads and your work will have a major impact on the scaling and evolution of our platform. 

Build/Architecture :

  • Define and test future database architectures and procedures.
  • Work closely with feature teams in order to build efficient data models with scalability and performance in mind.
  • Empower developers by providing them with observability tools and automated procedures.
  • Act as a database expert regarding any data-related topic from development teams.
  • In constant quest for innovative solutions, you will closely monitor technological developments.

Run :

  • Ensure a high level of database performance (query optimizations, instance tuning…)
  • Handle database upgrade strategies
  • Database Incident management (resolution, post-mortem…)
  • Ensure that SLAs are met on database platforms with appropriate monitoring and observability.
  • Define and operate backup strategies, and backup tests procedures.

Architecture & Technologies :

  • Platform is deployed on AWS and GCP with Full Infrastructure As Code.
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, AWS RDS Aurora
  • Ops: Terraform, Kubernetes, Spinnaker
  • Languages : Python, Go

What you will bring to the team :

  • Expert-level understanding of relational databases, SQL and query optimization techniques and demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent performance problems
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator / Architect with experiences on highly available database architectures with high traffic.
  • Curiosity, proactivity, teamspirit and passion with a thirst for learning new technologies.
  • Openness to non-RDBMS technologies.
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to work closely with other teams.Great verbal and written communication skills, in English at least, French is a plus.
