About the role
Malt is growing rapidly(e)In order to reach our ambitious goals, we're looking for a great Research Data Scientist to join the growing data team.
The Data team works very closely with the product team to create a world where everyone is free to choose the best people to work with.
At Malt, we believe that curiosity is an asset(e)The whole team participates in the product architecture, all decisions are collegial, and we regularly engage in discussions on the best way to do things.
We are organized in tribes(e)Each tribe is responsible for a part of the product from floor to ceiling (user research, design, architecture, support, technical debt, production...), and imagines the best solutions to reach the product OKRs and thus contribute directly to the company's growth.

As a Research Data Scientist, your mission will be to:
- Advance ML applications at Malt in order to improve several topics including the quality of matches on the marketplace(e)
- Conduct literature reviews on topics related to the problems data scientists are solving at Malt (matching, recommendation, moderation)
- Apply state of the art machine learning approaches to these problems
- Communicate effectively your findings to technical and non technical people.
You will be expected to:
You will have the opportunity to publish some of your work in scientific conferences(e)Depending on the project you will be part of the Product tribes to confront their needs to the approaches you identified.
A little more about you
- Must have:
- PhD in computer science or applied mathematics (you must not have held a permanent position since you graduated)
- Good knowledge of a programming language, ideally Python
- Proven understanding of state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) theory especially deep learning
- Experience with ML libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow, …).
- Nice to have:
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP), recommender system, graph neural network (GNN) would be huge advantage
- Experience with a Cloud environment, ideally GCP
- Good knowledge of SQL
- Previous experience working with Airflow and BigQuery
- Ability to design models and put them into production
Recruitment Process
- First call with Alexandre, our Tech Talent Acquisition Manager, to better understand your background, aspirations and answer your questions(e)(45 minutes)
- Interview with Marc, Data Scientist, to discuss your experience and the role in more detail (45 minutes).
- Interview with one or two data scientists: technical questions and a live case (60 minutes).
- Interview with your future manager, Claire, VP Data, to answer your questions on the data organization (30 minutes).
- Home assignment to evaluate your hard skills
- Proposal within 48h
