Job description

TheFork’s data organization is accelerating and needs to reinforce its operating model to ensure further scaling of Data Team’s capacity to support various data needs and opportunities across the organization(e)Data Mesh principles are guiding our development strategy, especially with the implementation of Data Domains, that we want to further equip in terms of self-service data platform and shared (computational) data governance(e)Data as a product is also a concept that we are contemplating and want to progress on.

As a Head of Data Management and Governance, your mission will be to ensure that we constantly level-up the quality and value of our data asset, ensure it’s well structured, complete and usable to fastly answer business needs, while also safeguarding security and confidentiality standards.

1/ You will be the catalyst for TheFork’s Data Governance framework and its scaling at the company level(e)We expect you to guide us and to drive TheFork journey in this domain(e)We expect that in 18 months:

• We have setup and deployed a new data governance model, with roles processes and routines that guarantee a shared knowledge (documentation, qualification, normalisation) of the data generated, collected, processed and exposed by TheFork and, as a result of this, higher level of quality and actionability for this data
• Data is produced at Data Domain level, in compliance with our federated data governance model: we have shared frameworks, standards, procedures in place associated with proper tooling fostering enforcement and automation of these Data Governance principles

2/ You will guide the development of TheFork data assets to ensure that we have the right data available right in time to support our Business use cases(e)We expect that you will guide the data team in the journey to further anticipate business data needs and proactively deliver a portfolio of data management (data sourcing, quality enforcement, etc) initiatives.

This role is part of the Data Team, which is a central team supporting all business functions (~6 central functions / 15 countries)(e)The team is sized ~30 FTEs and a growth plan will lead it to 50 in 2023(e)This growth in order to support increasing volume of business data needs and to accelerate on data leveraging opportunities required by the company’s 5Y strategy.

You will also build and manage a team of Data Management specialists to help you in achieving your goals.

We’ll measure the success of your position through the following outcomes:

• Increase of the overall quality and comprehensiveness of the data asset, measured through its intrinsic quality, maturity, documentation, … 
• Impact in the company on data management initiatives (process improvement, business challenges answered or solved, …)
• Easiness to access and use data through dedicated tools and processes (catalog, glossary, .(e))
• Ability to drive change within the organization (inside and outside of the data team) for all matters related to data management & governance
• Proactivity and anticipation of issues 

To reach your goals, some examples of your activities will be: 

• Actively contribute to the design of Data Management & Governance unit, determine the means (budget, projects,…) to achieve its goals
• Co-design with key stakeholders (data team, product & engineering teams, other business teams) a strategy to level-up data management & governance 
• Animate a data governance network within the Fork, work with top management to appoint relevant roles within the organization
• Create and enforce policies for effective data management
• Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data
• Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management, external stakeholders etc.
• Partner with Legal, Security and all relevant stakeholders to ensure with adherence with security and data protection policies
• Drive projects to improve Data Management & Governance practices (processes transformation, tooling implementation,…)
• Develop data quality strategies with data owners
• Identify and qualify and missing data that could be beneficial to the business, plan for a effective data enrichment

Your profile: 

• Min 8 years of experience in a role related to Data Management & Governance (for instance as data manager or as consultant in the domain)
• Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
• Familiarity with modern databases, big data and information system technologies
• Exposure to practical implementation of data mesh is a strong plus
• You have already be in the situation to assess data management solutions to equip your organization
• You are pragmatic and result oriented: Data Governance can be theoretical(e)You will have concrete things to address first (data quality and lineage)
• You know how to frame a transformation project and drive change(e)You have the capacity to navigate within a network of different stakeholders(e)Non-hierarchic management should be an area of comfort for you
• An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• You speak English and French
